Let me introduce myself…
My name is Heather Smuin, and I live in Tobiano, BC. I learned to play golf when I was 10. My parents were avid golfers, so my sister and I entered the junior program and learned to play.
I always tell people that when I learned, no one my age played golf, which is why I didn’t take it up again until 2006. The real reason? I had such unrealistic expectations and no control over my emotions. Playing was frustrating. It was anything BUT enjoyable. I blamed my parents for being “rules sticklers” and contributing to my angst. I couldn’t comprehend how I could hit an excellent shot one time, and almost miss the ball the next. How could I hole a 100 yard shot one day and have it take five shots to cover that distance the next? Jeepers!

Why am I telling you this?

Fast forward to March 2006. Our Dad had just passed away. My sister and I were sorting through the paperwork and came across his paid membership to the Kamloops Golf and Country Club. She suggested I get the golf membership transferred to me and play golf for a year for free… to see if I liked it. Well, I did and, I guess I did like it because the rest is history.
By the beginning of the 2008 season, my handicap was 26. As the season got underway, I noticed my bad shots were better than what my good shots used to be. I was improving. I took some lessons and continued to grow. By the end of the 2008 season, my handicap was 19.
I knew I wanted to get better, so I kept playing and “working” on my game. I had no clue what I was doing, but I believed the videos I watched sporadically on Revolution Golf were my ticket to a single digit.

Eventually, I played enough and improved enough to get my handicap to 15. Spring of 2016, I knew that I needed some professional help to make my shots more consistent. I took a lesson from Rob LaRocque, and he taught me about swing plane. In October 2016 I took a few lessons from David Curtis, and he made a video of my swing which helped immensely! I could see what I was doing wrong as he pointed out how it should look. By this time I was engrossed in my Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Fitness training, and it was all coming together. I now understood how the movements and capabilities of those could influence your golf swing.

Little did I know that decision would ignite in me a passion I didn’t even know I had. All because of a choice I made that day in 2006, I have learned about fitness, the golf swing, the mental game, and nutrition. One that would send me on a journey that is incredibly unbelievable, challenging, exciting and rewarding all at the same time. I have met some of the most intriguing people, and worked alongside and learned from some of the best in the business. All in my pursuit to become a better golfer, I have gained incredible knowledge and learned invaluable lessons that I believe is my duty to pass along to you.
